About Us
Our Mission
The Congregational Church of Jefferson Park is a center for Christian faith and practice in the Jefferson Park neighborhood. Our congregation is a multigenerational community of faithful Christians working to be an authentic presence, illuminating this community with the bright light of Jesus Christ.
Open and Affirming Congregation
We believe that all people are created in God’s image, and thus are loved and blessed equally by God. We invite and welcome into our community persons of every gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, age, race, nationality, economic and social status, mental and physical health and ability, faith background, marital standing, and family structure. Therefore, no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome in this United Church of Christ.
The United Church of Christ
Founded in 1957, as the union of several traditions including Congregational, German Evangelical and Reformed, Christian, and other ethnic congregations, the UCC is one of the most diverse denominations in the United States.
The motto, taken from the Gospel of John, “that all may be one,” illustrates the hope and the promise that we can live together in the unity of Christ even if we do not always agree. We do agree that we all have the freedom and responsibility to “make the faith our own in each generation.” Throughout its history, and that of the predecessor denominations, the United Church of Christ has lead the way on issues of justice. It seeks to be multiracial, multicultural, open and welcoming to all people, discerning the still speaking God’s will for humanity and our world.
